Brief Description
Community Overview
Agoura Hills began to grow in the late 1960s after the Ventura Freeway section of U.S. Route 101 was built through the city's heart. The first housing tracts in Agoura were Hillrise, Liberty Canyon and Lake Lindero. Rapid growth continued during the 1970s, when schools were built and much of downtown erected.
Today Agoura Hills is most known for equestrian ranches with horse trails, and top-rated hiking trails. Hiking trails at Chesebro Canyon and Agoura Hills often lead to Pacific Coast Highway with stunning views of the California Coast. Nestled within the city of Agoura Hills is the Oak Park community. Students living in Oak Park greatly benefit from the local schools. Oak Park school district is the highest rated school district in Ventura County and one of the highest rated in the state. Oak Park High School is rated 10/10 from greatschools.org with 84% of its graduates meeting the UC/CSU entrance requirements.
Oak Park is also best known for its open space - this area is surrounded by trees and greenbelts, as well as beautiful hill sides. And since its tucked back about a couple of miles from the freeway, there is never much traffic.
Where to eat
Neaby Restaurants
Agoura Hills has everything you could want... from Vegan to great date-night vibes, or even just somewhere fun for a birthday dinner—Agoura Hills and the surrounding area have a surprisingly strong food scene for a quiet suburb!
Café Bizou – Agoura Hills
If you want that classic French bistro experience without breaking the bank, Café Bizou is your spot. Think filet mignon, duck à l’orange, and fresh seafood—all served in a charming, cozy atmosphere. It’s perfect for date nights or a fancy-but-not-too-fancy dinner with friends.
Sushi Katsu-Ya – Encino (15–20 min away)
OK, this one’s technically in Encino, but worth the drive. Sushi Katsu-Ya is a local legend. Super fresh sashimi, killer spicy tuna on crispy rice, and creative rolls that are always on point. Pro tip: go during happy hour and load up.
The Grill on the Alley – Westlake Village
Classic American steakhouse meets upscale comfort food. Think perfectly seared steaks, creamy mashed potatoes, and lobster mac. It’s got a slightly swanky feel but still very welcoming. Great for client dinners or any excuse to indulge.
The Natural Café – Agoura Hills
Super chill spot for healthy eats. Lots of veggie-forward options, smoothies, wraps, and bowls that are fresh but still filling. Their salmon salad and Thai chicken wrap are go-to’s. Perfect after a hike or yoga class.
Tavern 101 Grill & Tap House
Right off the 101 freeway, this place has amazing BBQ, juicy burgers, and wood-fired pizzas. It’s got a rustic tavern feel and a great local beer list. Ideal for a casual night out or catching a game with friends.
Nonna – Westlake Village
Nonna is your modern Italian comfort food fix. House-made pastas, beautiful wood-fired pizzas, and killer cocktails. It feels like a neighborhood spot with elevated food. Their short rib ravioli is chef’s kiss.
Plata Taqueria & Cantina – Agoura Hills
One of my favorite places for tacos, margaritas, and a laid-back vibe. They do street tacos with gourmet flair—like carnitas with pineapple salsa or crispy shrimp with chipotle aioli. The patio’s great for warm nights.
Blue Table – Agoura Hills & Calabasas
Super cute and casual, Blue Table is a deli-meets-Euro café. They have gourmet sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie boards, and an awesome brunch menu. Great coffee too. It’s one of those places where everything feels homemade.

Schools in Agoura Hills
Agoura Hills has a reputation for excellent schools and a strong focus on education. Most of the city is served by the Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD), which is one of the top-rated districts in Southern California. Families love it because the schools here consistently earn high marks for academics, extra-curriculars, and college readiness.
You'll find award-winning elementary, middle, and high schools—including Agoura High School, which is well known for its academics, music and arts programs, and competitive sports teams.
