Where to eat
Neaby Restaurants
Honestly, Thousand Oaks might not be as flashy as LA, but the food scene holds its own. You’ve got great variety—from high-end steak and sushi to cozy family-run spots that feel like home. Here are a couple places to get you started.
Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar
This one’s a crowd-pleaser. It has a little bit of everything—burgers, noodle bowls, street corn fries, even bison meatloaf (which sounds weird, but is actually amazing). The vibe is rustic and cozy, with a big dog-friendly patio. Great happy hour too!
Mastro’s Steakhouse – Thousand Oaks
If you're in the mood to splurge a little, Mastro’s is where you go for that classic upscale steakhouse vibe. Think juicy filets, lobster mashed potatoes, and a martini that’ll make you feel like you’re in a Bond movie. It’s fancy, yes—but totally worth it for special occasions.
Joey – Woodland Hills
Located at The Lakes shopping center, Joey is trendy but not too trendy—great cocktails, and a mix of globally inspired dishes. Sushi rolls, Korean fried cauliflower, steak frites—it’s got a little international fusion flair and always feels fun and energetic.
Ali Baba Café
Tucked into a quiet shopping center, this is one of those hidden gems. Nepalese and Indian dishes—super flavorful curries, momos (Nepali dumplings), and garlic naan that’s always hot and fresh. Comfort food, plain and simple.
Brent’s Deli – Westlake Village
Technically just outside Thousand Oaks, but close enough that I’m counting it. This is the go-to spot when you're craving classic deli fare—matzo ball soup, pastrami on rye, bagels, and massive breakfasts. Seriously, their portions are huge.
Holdren’s Steaks & Seafood
Right in the heart of the city, Holdren’s is kind of a local staple. The steaks are fantastic, and their seafood dishes are super fresh. It’s more laid-back than Mastro’s but still upscale. Great for a nice dinner with friends or a casual date night.
Moqueca Brazilian Cuisine – Oxnard *(worth the drive!)
Okay, not technically Thousand Oaks, but it’s about 30 minutes away and totally worth the trip. They specialize in traditional Brazilian seafood stews served in clay pots—super flavorful and rich. Try the Moqueca de Camarão (shrimp) and thank me later.
Marcello Ristorante
If you love Italian, Marcello's is a gem. It’s family-run, super authentic, and the pasta tastes like it came straight out of a kitchen in Rome. Their gnocchi is next-level, and the seafood linguine is always a hit. Cozy, romantic, and never pretentious.
